( Insurance )

Evacuation insurance covers for the transfer of an injured individual to a medical facility such as a hospital by air, water or land. It covers for any medical treatment that is needed while being transported to a medical facility, but does not provide any further coverage after you arrive at the hospital. Evacuation insurance also pays for the medical personnel that accompany you during your transport to a hospital or medical facility. Some medical evacuation insurance plans can also cover you for any accidental death or bodily injuries such as dismemberment, and evacuation during an emergency political/military situation in the place of travel. Lost baggage and trip interruption are also sometimes be included, as well as the lodging and travel expenses of a family member when a doctor feels that the presence of a family member is needed while being transported to a hospital.

Depending on the evacuation insurance that you purchase, the insurance policy can cover you for any evacuation that occurs in your country, or internationally. It can also include the transportation of your remains should you die as a result of the injury that you have sustained. In special insurance plans, you can also obtain coverage to pay for the airfare of children to go back home should they be left unattended because of your accident.

In order to qualify for evacuation insurance, you will need to be of a certain age. Length of coverage varies depending on the insurance plan and premium that you pay for, and may cover you for any number of trips that you make to any place up to a maximum covered amount.

When purchasing evacuation insurance, it is worthwhile to look at the exclusions of the insurance policy before deciding on a purchase, aside from its inclusions and premium price.

Evacuation insurance is different from ambulance insurance and emergency roadside services. Ambulance insurance will only cover you for transportation to a hospital on land, but will not cover you should you require air transportation to a medical facility. Emergency roadside service on the other hand, refers to coverage that you can obtain as a result of a broken down vehicle or a vehicular accident.
