Speakers bureaus may assist you in finding a suitable speaker for your seminar, meeting or convention when you are unable to find presenters for the topics of your event. They can also assist you in sourcing a replacement speaker when you get a cancellation. Speakers bureaus earn their income by taking a certain commission from the speakers’ earnings; there is no need for the organizer of the event to pay these bureaus for their services.

Some speakers have an exclusive contract with certain bureaus and therefore, are unable to get direct bookings. Going through speakers bureaus will then give you access to more speakers than having to find one yourself from the associations in their field of expertise.

Only look to the speakers bureaus when you really cannot find speakers for your event. Some professionals can easily be invited for a smaller fee or sometimes at no charge as they get public exposure in exchange; all you need to do is send an email or letter to invite them - this is one way wherein convention bureaus get their presenters.

Finally, the choice of whether to use speakers bureaus in looking for potential speakers is up to you. Should you decide to ask a speaker directly, it is strongly suggested that you have a replacement speaker on standby in case your key presenter cancels at the last minute.
