An ITE circuit breaker is a device designed to stop the flow of electrical current once there is an overload. You will find circuit breakers used in place of a fuse. A circuit breaker merely breaks the current flow during overload situations, but a fuse will need replacement because it melts when the overload generates a lot of heat.

Circuit breaker panels are the electrical distribution centers for your house. Circuit breaker panels divide the current entering the home into branch circuits that are carried throughout your house, and a circuit breaker controls each branch circuit.

There are many types of circuit breakers: single pole, double pole, quad breakers, ground fault circuit breakers, and surge-protection devices. You’ll find various well-known names, such as ITE circuit breakers, Sylvania circuit breakers, Square d Circuit breakers, and Pushmatic circuit breakers.

You use single pole breakers to supply power to circuits that have small loads, such as circuits for receptacles and lighting. Your circuits for heavy loads, such as those for electric water heaters and dryers, should have double pole breakers. For added protection, you should install ground fault circuit breakers for circuits leading to the laundry room or other places where electrical appliances may come into contact with water.

A quad breaker can contain several configurations within one unit; for instance, two double-pole circuits of various amperages. If you use quad breakers, you should also have circuit breaker panels specially designed to accept quad breakers. Surge-protection devices protect against over-voltages; circuit breakers protect you against over-currents.

ITE circuit breakers, manufactured by the ITE Circuit Breaker Company, come in all types of breakers, and in medium and high voltage versions. ITE circuit breakers are known for innovative designs. The ITE Circuit Breaker Company is acknowledged as the developer of 5 kilo-volt air magnetic circuit breakers for industrial use.
