T in the Park is a music festival that has been held in Scotland every year since 1994. The name T in the Park comes from the fact that one of the event’s key sponsors is Tennent’s Lager, a very popular Scottish brewer, and that the festival was first held in Strathclyde Country Park.
Initiated when DF Concerts partnered with Tennent’s Lager, each year T in the Park features a line-up of a wide array of artists, from the very famous to local unsigned ones. Held over a succession of two days, usually during the early weeks of July, the music festival has grown to become one of the most popular and exciting events in Europe.
The launch of T in the Park in 1994 featured bands like Bjork, Rage against the Machine, Oasis, and Blur. Approximately 17,000 fans attended the first festival, with 5 percent of that number choosing to stay overnight by camping in the park.
In 1997, the venue of T in the Park moved to Balado, Scotland, making the festival more reachable to fans not only from Scotland, but from other parts of the United Kingdom as well. This is reflected by the fact that, at present, more than 45 percent of tickets that are purchased for the festival are not bought by Scotland locals.
To date, T in the Park 2005 is deemed the most successful. T in the Park tickets sold out after just 4 days of being on sale. A total of 69,000 fans attended the event each day, with 65 percent camping on the site overnight. Featuring over 170 bands and 10 stages, the T in the Park 2005 line-up included musical artists like James Brown, Travis, Green Day and the Foo Fighters. In the UK Festival Awards, T in the Park 2005 won the title for Best Major Festival, and, for its second consecutive year, Best Organization and Facilities.
The same day that T in the Park 2005 was over, festival tickets for T in the Park 2006 became available for sale. Within four hours, one third of the tickets were sold out. Presently, T in the Park tickets for the 2006 event are sold out. Their line-up currently includes The Who, Feeder, Eels, Placebo, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Franz Ferdinand.
