Voice over Internet Protocol or otherwise known as the VoIP technology changed the way you conduct long distance communications. Voip telephony essentially turns audio signals into digital data so that it can be transmitted through the internet. VoIP telephony lets you bypass the traditional fees associated with long distance calls because you can make the same phone call through the internet.

You can use the VoIP service in a lot of different ways, for example, one way to do this is through the use of analog telephone adaptor. This method permits you to connect your telephone to the internet so you can use the VoIP telephony. The only set-up you must do is to plug the cable to the analog telephone adaptor and you’re ready to use the VoIP service. Another way to use the VoIP service is through IP phones, these phones have an Ethernet connector. It will connect directly to the router and it will allow you to call anyone from practically anywhere who uses the VoIP telephony.

Meanwhile, the easiest way to use the VoIP telephony is through your computer itself. You don’t have to pay for any long distance call in this case because all you need is inexpensive software, speakers, a microphone, and an internet connection and you bypass the fees for phone calls entirely. Note however, that you will connect your computer to another computer and not to a phone so it would be preferable if both computers have a very fast internet connection.

A normal VoIP service would already come with added features that are free including caller ID, call transfer, repeat dial, return call, and three-way calling. These would have added charges from telephone companies if you are using the traditional phone but they come free with the VoIP technology. Overall, the VoIP telephony has revolutionized the way people communicate with both family and friends. It gave the consumers a viable alternative to the expensive phone calls that they are used to making.
