An individual should consider buying holiday insurance. Flights can be cancelled or delayed due to bad weather, baggage can get lost or you can get sick and thus, have to postpone or cancel your trip. Holiday insurance differs from international travel insurance where its coverage is only for any medical or hospital expenses incurred during travel.

To make sure you purchase the right type of holiday insurance, it is best for you to know the different types of coverage available. Most holiday insurance policies cover some or all of the following: any cancelled or delayed trips that could be due to inclement weather, serious illness, or any other valid reason; transport to a hospital, or if a medical evacuation is needed in case or accident or illness and any medical expenses incurred by the traveler as a result of an accident or illness.

Baggage loss can be requested from the holiday insurance company so that you can be reimbursed for any expenses incurred. Do note that if this happens to you, a police report issued from the country where you spend your holiday is needed by the insurance company in order to claim a reimbursement.

Accidental death coverage can also be added to the policy up to a certain amount or limit.

You may purchase holiday insurance from a travel agent or from an insurance company. Purchasing from a travel agent is more convenient, but not recommended because if the agency suddenly closes their business, you may not get your reimbursement back.

You should purchase holiday insurance right after you make your travel booking or before you depart for your holiday.

The price of your holiday insurance coverage will depend on your age, the length of your travel and the cost of your trip.

People, who have not purchased holiday insurance and decide to do so after their departure, can still purchase a backpacker travel insurance. This type of holiday insurance allows one to purchase insurance online even after one has departed for his trip. It also allows a person to purchase a new coverage should one have to stay longer during their holiday.

Good insurance deals can be obtained from Marks and Spencer travel insurance. Coverage can be purchased online and can cover you for a single trip or annually. Their coverage includes personal accident, legal expenses, and cancellation of holiday, personal liability and lost luggage. There are also optional coverage for golfer’s extension, wedding cover, business travel, any accidents caused by hazardous activities and any injuries or accidents gained from engaging in winter sports.

Before signing the holiday insurance agreement make sure that you read through the policy carefully so that you know what coverage is included and the procedures involved if you have to file a claim.
