Personal emergency response system provides the immediate dispatch of medical assistance when you are stricken with a health emergency that requires quick attention.

STEPS IN THE RESPONSE SYSTEM

There are many layers to a personal emergency response system. First is the emergency response device or mechanism. Usually this device is in the form of a bracelet or pendant that you and your loved ones can wear unobtrusively at all times. When there is an emergency, you can activate the device by the simple push of a button.

When the emergency response device is activated, it sends a signal to a dispatch center informing them of a medical emergency. The dispatch center is manned round-the-clock to ensure that someone will be able to receive the emergency alert and process it immediately.

Once a signal is sent, the personal emergency response system will immediately match this with your personal information, and locate where the signal is coming from. From the dispatch center, the personal emergency response system will then notify the nearest emergency medical response units and inform them of a possible medical emergency. The emergency medical response unit will then confirm that the alert has been received and that they are on their way.

WORKING TOGETHER AND APART

All of these processes happen within seconds from the moment the emergency response device has been activated. Such immediate response is necessary because a slight delay in any of the components can spell the difference between life and death.

The success of a personal emergency response system lies on the integrity of all the emergency response components from the device, to the dispatch center, to the medical team giving the actual emergency assistance. And in order to maintain integrity, each of these personal emergency response system elements must function well, independent of the other components. Only by working separately can they work together as a cohesive unit.
