Types of School Laminators

A school laminator can be used to permanently protect school cards, IDs, teaching aids, laminated wall maps, newspaper articles, school certificates and many other documents from grime, dirt, water and grease.

There are two common types of school laminators:

A pouch laminator can laminate documents that are as small as an ID card to a sheet of paper as large as eleven inches by seventeen inches. The document that is to be laminated is placed between a laminator pouch, which is then fed into the laminating machine. Heat is applied to its rollers, which seal the laminating film to the document. Of all types of school laminators, a pouch laminator is the most inexpensive kind.

The laminator pouches which are used with pouch laminators come in many varieties. There are pre-punched pouches that have pre-punched holes on the laminating sheets. There are also barcode pouches that have translucent covers that prevent the fraudulent duplication of barcodes. A magnetic stripe pouch protects codes contained on a magnetic stripe, while allowing the information within the stripe to be read by a stripe reader. Pressure sensitive pouches are also available in the market, and can only be utilized with cold laminating machines. Finally, the most common type of laminator pouches is the thermal pouch which is used on hot laminators.

Another common type of a school laminator is a roll laminator. This type of laminator utilizes rolls of laminating material which are larger in size compared to laminator pouches. Materials around twelve to eighty inches in width are the documents that usually work well with this type of laminator.

Roll laminators are available in two types: a cold laminator uses a cold film and seals itself using the pressure of a laminating roller. A hot laminator uses a hot film and heated rollers with extremely high temperature to seal the laminating material.

As the cost of these laminators can be expensive, you must ensure that the school laminator that you purchase will be durable enough to be used for a long period. A service warranty must be included in the product that you purchase as well.
