The Art Institutes is an educational system that caters to individuals who want to pursue artistic and creative ends. The institution offers alternatives to your classical four-year college education, offering students a wide-range of programs; skills and vocational certification, associate diplomas, and bachelor’s and master's degree.

There is no single campus for The Art Institutes because it can be found in major cities across the country, with each institute having some level of independence over curriculum design and program offerings. While The Art Institute has standards that every subsidiary must adhere to, the institute allows room for autonomy. This is to say that the programs of The Art Institute of Houston are not totally identical with The Art Institute California, and so forth.

The Art Institute of Houston is one such school. Established in the sixties, The Art Institute of Houston then was known as Houston School of Commercial Art. It was an independent school catering to skills and career training in crafts and design until it joined the network of Art Institutes. By doing so, it earned the right to call itself The Art Institute of Houston.

The Art Institute of Houston has programs in culinary arts, fashion and interior design, graphic arts, and computer animation. The Art Institute of Houston does not only offer skills and vocational training in these fields; it also offers management courses. This is intended by The Art Institute of Houston so that their graduates are not only skilled at the craft, but can run the business as well and be successful at it.
