Bird pest or also called bird flue is present since ever. The bird pest is similar to the human influenza virus. The dangerous fact on bird pest is the possible transmission from the bird to human beings.

The first outbreak of bird pest under human beings was in 1997 in Hongkong. 18 people were brought to hospital and six (6) of them died. The bird control was the way to stop the spreading of the bird pest, therefore about 1.5 million chicken were killed.

Until now the bird pest is reported in nearly all countries which are on the route of moving birds.

The name of the present bird pest virus is H5N1. The danger is that this virus will mutate and is able to transfer from one person to another, just like the human influenza virus. This could start a pandemic. The answer of the politics to this threat is bird control. Therefore it is necessary to know the way birds are flying when they are moving from one country to the next one. If there will be reported cases of bird pest is it necessary to kill all potential pest birds to prevent a further spreading.

One way of the bird control in order to prevent spreading is prevention. In areas where cases of bird pest are reported, the chicken have to stay inside the chicken house to prevent the contact with possible pest birds.

The question is, if it is possible to install a functioning bird control since birds have no border where they have to stop and to show if they have bird pest. Until now there is also the question what will happen if a wild pest birds died somewhere outside and will be eaten by cats or other animals. You can scan people at the airport with a thermic camera for bird pest control.

The next years will show if the scientist and the the politics can find a suitable way to control the bird pest. Until now they are just in the state of preventing an outbreak but they are not yet able to treat bird flu properly.
