Lamination protects and preserves important papers such as documents, pictures, forms, ID’s, etc. by covering them with a thin sheet of laminate or plastic which is then sealed through the application of heat. These laminating sheets sandwich the document and thus protects it from being torn or destroyed by water and moisture.

Because lamination is still a viable business, going into laminating supplies is a venture you may want to think about. Providing laminating supplies to small laminating businesses is a worthwhile endeavor because everybody seems to be going a different direction. Laminating supplies may be a niche-business with a very narrow market, but one that can nevertheless guarantee a steady supply of business like school laminators.

There are two basic types of laminating machines – the pouch laminating machine and the roll laminating machine. The first one is the pouch laminator which is a compact and portable machine. Because of its small size, the documents that it can laminate are limited in sizes too. You can often see these types of machines in school supplies stores laminating photo ID’s.

The second type is the roll laminating machine. This machine is designed to laminate bigger documents such as posters, menus and calendars. This is also the one used in making laminated wall maps.

The more important laminating supplies are the laminate rolls and laminator pouches. They are the consumables used by the two types of laminating machines. These are basically the same, except that pouches are pre-cut into several standard sizes. These laminates come in a variety of sizes and thicknesses. The plastic laminates may either be standard clear, select, matte, UV, or pressure sensitive.
