Pneumatic Seal: Sealing to increase the quality of the performance

One class of seals are pneumatic seals. There are different options how to seal something, the pneumatic seals are using pressurized air. The pressure pneumatic seals are operated is relatively low and the range of the pressure is from 1 – 150 psi. Pneumatic seals are often applied in pneumatic cylinders and valves since the can be also exposed to high operating speeds. The prevention of contamination is the main task a pneumatic seal has to full fill. Therefore the pneumatic seal stops the circulation of air between two different areas (e.g. two rooms).

One application of pneumatic seals is to seal doors and other closures positively. Therefore the pneumatic seal is inflated with air, but there are also seals which are using liquids. To perform this task the pneumatic seal is connected with a regulated system. This system regulates the pressure in the pneumatic seal if it is pressurized it closes the gap between the e.g. door and the surronding frame to build a barrier to external contamination. The two important attributes of a pneumatic seal are the capability of expansion and the gap-closing ability.

To seal the docking area between a building and a truck, a dock seal is used. The task which is performed by a Dock seal is to seal the top and sides of a loading dock door opening. Therefore dock seals are designed to have tight contact with the trailer after it entered in to the loading dock. A damaged or missing dock seal can create safety and productivity problems and can lead to the loose of environmental control. The dock seal saves employee comfort, energy, increase security or prevents thefts, product damage or contamination.

Further application of seals are wafer seals. Wafer seals are applied to seal folded pieces. Therefore one side of the wafer seal is adhesive. Wafer seals are available in standard or custom shapes. The wafer seals are mostly used for letters, but also for decorative and other functional purposes. Wafer seals can be used mostly only one wafer seal per piece since there is only one adhesive side.

Pneumatic seals are also used to seal a meal to conserve it for a longer time. In every household self seal bags can be found. Self seal bags have also the purpose to prevent that the content of the self seal bag comes in contact with the environment. Self seal bags also used in laboratories for a pneumatic sealing of e.g. a sample to prevent a contamination of the sample or the environment.

Pneumatic Sealings are used in a wide range of applications and fields. Pneumatic seals increase the quality of the performance and support a healthy and safer environment.
