Time clock system is a system of recording the attendance and the number of hours worked by an employee. It is designed to help the time keeper perform his task especially where the company employs hundreds.

In the beginning, it was relatively easy to track the hours an employee worked. But when companies and offices grew larger, employing hundreds of workers, it became imperative to device a method to efficiently track their performance.

The traditional time clock system uses a thick paper card called time card which is then inserted or “punched” onto a slot on the time clock or a “Bundy clock.” The time is then printed on the timecard indicating when the employee has checked in or out.

However, the traditional time card system has one major flaw: you can actually ask your buddy in work to “punch in” your time card in your absence. In this way, your tardiness will never be properly recorded. You are always on time!

Of course, that was not good news for the employers who pay on a “no work no pay” basis. They needed to have a time keeping system that is impervious to deceit and dishonesty.

Hence, a more advanced time keeping system called the biometric time clock system was invented. The most common of this uses the fingerprint of the worker instead of a time card.

For a more sophisticated design, a time clock system that uses hand measurements is preferable. It does not use finger prints or palm prints Instead it records 90 distinct measurements in the hand

They are sold in abundance in the market with prices ranging from fairly reasonable to very expensive ones depending on the design and user capacity.

Nowadays, a time clock system is a standard feature of all industrial and governmental establishments.

For an employer contemplating a reduction in payroll cost, a biometric time clock system is definitely a good investment!
