In big organizations with many items in inventory, it can be difficult to track changes in locations of individual items, packing sizes and stock levels. You lose time and commit errors while encoding information into the inventory database. You can eliminate these inefficiencies with a bar coding system in place. Bar coding is a major tool for capturing critical data quickly and accurately.
Bar code systems generally consist of three components: the codes, bar code readers (or scanners) and bar code label printers. Bar code scanners such as Symbol bar code scanners are optical scanning devices designed to read information printed in the form of bars of different sizes. The scanner detects and processes the varying reflectivity of light in the bar code.
You will find three types of Symbol bar code scanners: general purpose scanners, miniscan fixed-mount scanners and rugged scanners.
General Purpose Scanners
There are thirteen models of general purpose scanners which are ideal for use in checkout counters, hospitals, pharmacies, mailing services and stockrooms. You can choose between a handheld and a hands-free Symbol bar code scanner. Most of the general purpose Symbol bar code scanners feature charged couple device (CCD) photo sensors that electronically scan and measure light reflected from bar code symbols.
MiniScan Fixed Mount Scanners
A miniscan fixed-mount Symbol bar code scanner is designed for automated scanning applications including but not limited to clinical diagnostic equipment, medical equipment, robotics, and security identification. Miniscan fixed-mount scanners are fitted with object sensors which trigger the laser beam as the labeled item approaches. They can read and decode 1D, 2D and RSS bar code labels.
Rugged Scanners
Rugged Symbol bar code scanners are designed for heavy use in supply yards, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, retail back room and healthcare environments. There are seven models available, both in handheld or hands-free versions.
