There are fourteen area boards under the British Electricity Authority, one of which is the London Electricity Board. Each of these area boards is responsible for the distribution of electricity and supply to consumers in the United Kingdom.

The London Electricity Board has since then merged with the Seeboard Group of Companies to form EDF Energy. EDF Energy is now known as one of the largest energy companies in the United Kingdom.

Late last year, it was announced the United Kingdom may actually be experiencing an energy gap. If drastic measures are not taken immediately, the United Kingdom may undergo a shortfall in energy. London electricity may be threatened for this reason.

While fossil fuels are still the main source of electricity UK, newer and renewable sources of energy should also be looked into. Finding an energy source that is efficient instead of turning once again to nuclear power should be the thrust of the United Kingdom to prevent any problems in the future. Although a number of the nuclear power plants in the country are closing down, some energy experts have advised the government not to reopen these. While the electrical London supply is at risk, there are also other areas in the country that will surely be affected.

Sustainable energy is truly necessary for the future. In the long run, households and businesses can benefit greatly from alternative energy sources because this also means lower electricity bills. Combining heat and power and renewable energy will bring about a change that will change the polluting effects of greenhouse gases. With all this in mind, it ceases to become a problem that should be tackled only by the United Kingdom, but one that should be addressed the world over. By reducing the amount of fossil fuels being used all over the world, every nation can be assured of a cleaner, safer place to live for future generations.
