Liberty Mutual Insurance Group is considered to be one of the leading insurance groups in the United States with products ranging from personal and commercial automobile, workers compensation, general liability, group disability, fire and surety insurance. It is considered as one of the largest property and casualty insurer in the United States. It reorganized its structure into a mutual insurance holding company designed to increase the access of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group into the capital markets and provide strategic advances in acquisition and alliances with other groups.

Business Strategies and Units

Liberty Mutual Life Insurance Group operates with the value of consistently offering superior products and services through the operation of its four business strategic units that are expected to contribute evenly to the group’s premium outputs. Personal markets, commercial markets, agency markets and international markets are four of its business units that are strategically created to pursue its goal of providing superior products and services to its clients.

Personal Markets Unit

Products and services designed for private passenger automobile, home owners, valuable assets and personal liabilities are the core business of the group in terms of personal markets. Life insurance and annuity products are also key products that are offered to this market segment. The unit is strategically designed to ally with various groups such as employers, credit unions, professional and alumni associations to promote its products to its intended market.

Commercial Markets Unit

Commercial markets provide risk management and transfer services to commercial establishments. It is sub divided into five business units namely national market, business market, liberty mutual property, group market and liberty mutual alternative market. National market unit covers the insurance needs of larger companies. Business markets cater to the needs of smaller and middle businesses with direct and full lines of insurance products. Liberty mutual property is assigned to handle programs related to property insurance needs of larger and smaller businesses. Group market handles disability products and group insurance. Liberty Mutual Alternative Markets handle reinsurance, claims management and loss prevention.

Agency Markets Unit

Agency markets units handle property, casualty and specialty insurance carriers that are distributed across independent agents and brokers. It is the unit that coordinates with allied agencies of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group.

International Markets Unit

This unit handles the international operations of the group. It currently has personal and small commercial lines insurance in eleven countries outside of the United States.

All these strategic units have been created by Liberty Mutual Insurance Group to help its clients live safe and secured through its various insurance products and services. After all it’s their clients who defined who they are.
