You may not strictly need a steam vacuum cleaner. But you will not be spoiling yourself if you buy one. Having your own steam vacuum cleaner may save you money in the long run because you no longer have to call a commercial steam cleaner to clean your carpets.

With a steam vacuum cleaner, you can clean more things in the house than just your carpets. A good steam cleaner can effectively sanitize your home, rendering it free of mold, dust mites and mildew, even as it removes dirt.

There are three features that would really matter on the effectiveness of your steam vac: a powerful motor, many cleaning brushes, and an onboard water heater. You need hot water to clean well: the hotter the water, the better the cleaning will be.

Some models, like the Ladybug steam cleaners, can heat water up to 298 degrees Fahrenheit. Water at this temperature can really kill off bacteria and molds, and remove contaminants and allergens stuck on floors and carpets. This helps those with asthma and allergies. The high temperature also loosens tough, caked-on dirt with direct steam and you wipe the spot afterwards with no dripping or residue.

Steam vacuum cleaners usually come with accessories and hand tools to help clean other surfaces, like linoleum, upholstery, vinyl and tile. Some models have built-in tool caddies so you can carry the tools with you while moving around. It may help if you could get a pressure gauge feature to make it easier for you to maintain ideal pressure; however, that will come with a price.

Steam cleaners generate heat, so it can be a difficult task to do in summer if you don't have air conditioning. And, steam vacuum cleaners can be expensive but they're worth every cent if you learn to use them to full potential.
