Computer rooms are one of the most important places in any office. Information stored inside the computers is valuable in any office and the loss of such information due to dust and other organisms is a great loss for any company.

Computer room cleaning needs to be done periodically to keep it dust free so that it does not affect the computer’s performance by overheating and reduce the performance life.

It is important that computer room air conditioning be maintained properly too. It is the forced air of the air conditioner that keeps the room cool and keeps the machines running without overheating.

Because of the sensitivity of computer equipment, there should be procedures that should be adhered to for computer room cleaning:

Only a special vacuum cleaner with 0.5-micron exhaust filter should be used to clean the computer room flooring before mopping the floor. Every thing used for cleaning should be static-free.

The floor must be mopped using a damp (NOT WET) floor mop at least once a week. Cleaning products should not be used as they can react to materials inside the computer.

Carpeted floors should be vacuumed every other day, while raised floors should be vacuumed every 6 months.

There are also preventive measures that should be done in order to avoid contamination:

All printers should be located in a separate space and should be kept away from other computer equipment in the computer room.

Do not store paper and boxes inside the computer room as this can create dust an.

As much as possible avoid allowing people from entering the computer room.

Maintain the filters of your air conditioner as this is one of the main sources of dust.

Place a sticky mat at the entrance of your computer room to prevent dirt from entering from the bottom of the door.

Should construction work need to be performed within the room, try to make some form of barrier to collect the dust and debris. The dust particles from this can cause damage if in close contact with the computer equipment.

Following the above tips for computer room cleaning will help extend the life of your computer system and thus reduce the risk of power outages and loss of massive information.
