Almost all of the countries in Europe are interconnected by a large network of train tracks. This complex network is called the Eurail or Eurorail (for European Rail). The Eurail can be used by anyone, European Nationals and foreigners alike. If you would like to take the Eurail, all you need to do is purchase eurail tickets or eurail passes, know the eurail schedule and you're free to board.
Prior to buying your eurail tickets or eurail passes, it is advised that you plan your itinerary first. Some eurail tickets or eurail passes are only valid in some (and not all) European states. The Eurorail pass, an expensive yet more flexible ticket, for instance, covers 17 European countries. The cheaper Europass, however, only covers five.
Aside from eurail tickets or eurail passes, travelers are advised to have copies of the eurail train schedules on hand. Eurail schedules are usually given when you purchase your ticket, and this booklet lists down the ETDs of the trains and their respective loading platforms. Eurails are known for their promptness so you can be sure that the departure time indicated in your eurail schedule will be followed. Although trains leave their stations regularly, it is best that you be at the loading platform 45 minutes before your desired departure time as some eurail passes do not allow holders to have reserve seats.
To get to your platform on time, it is also advised that you purchase or get a eurail map or even the local train station map. Eurail maps can be found inside stations and near ticketing booths. Just grab a copy (if it's free) or pay a few euros for it. This way you don't lose valuable time searching for the right loading platform.
Although Eurail is supposed to cover the whole of Europe, it does not go through the countries in Great Britain. If you wish to see Great Britain by train, you will have to buy a Britrail ticket or a britrail pass.
Eurail tickets / eurail passes can be purchased from train stations in Europe and for your convenience, these can also be purchased from travel agents all over the world.
