If you are a tourist traveling through Europe, one of the easiest ways to get around would be to take the Euro Rail or Eurail. A Eurail pass is for unlimited travel in twenty-five European countries which includes Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Ireland, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. Eurail is different from Inter Rail, since the latter is only for European residents.

There are different Eurail passes including single and double country passes, youth passes for those under 26, first class travel passes and passes for those traveling in groups of two to five people.

If you plan ahead of time based on the Euro Rail schedule, then you can have a vacation schedule that runs smoothly. The important thing about the Euro Rail schedule is what constitutes as a full day of travel. Usually, the European train schedule runs from midnight to midnight, all of which is counted as a full day. Based on the Euro Rail schedule, direct overnight trains, as well as ferries leaving after seven p.m. both count as a day of travel. Two important tips about these European rail schedules that you should keep in mind are that you should always validate your ticket before boarding and you should make reservations as much as possible.

Eurail tickets do not always come cheap so it is best to be aware of how you can save on your trip. If you travel in a group of six adults, then you are entitled to a discount. Children under four are free while children under eleven get half off. Remember that your Eurail passes are valid up to six months after date of purchase so buying your ticket early is an advantage. This is because the ticket rates usually go up every year.

If you visit the Eurail website, then you will have a better idea of the Eurail schedules best suited for your itinerary.
