Unlike class B motor homes, motor graders may not seem to get your interest. But these earthmoving machines are very crucial in the construction and maintenance of roadway systems and surface mining, as they can do the precise grading work to achieve a smooth travel surface. Windrowing, snow removal, ditching, and scarifying are some of the other tasks that motor graders are capable of doing.
Motor graders have blades (also called moldboards) mounted underneath. These blades vary in their lengths which usually range from ten to sixteen feet. Only a skilled operator can control the operating tasks of these blades. If you watch motor graders in action, you will notice that operators raise or lower the blades independently at each side. The blade forms a slant relative to the horizontal plane, at the precise angle that allows the operator to collect material and shove it straight forward or shunt it to the side.
If you look at any models of motor graders closely, you will find a ring that attaches the blade to the frame. The operator swivels the ring on the vertical plane and adjusts the blade to make desired slopes on road banks. Motor graders come fitted with powered front tires which can also be angled to brace against the force of the blade as it works on the road material.
Similar to motor yachts, motor graders also come in different sizes. Smaller motor graders such as those weighing about five tons are most useful in housing developments, industrial plants, and other light municipal duty applications. Bigger and more powerful behemoths are crucial in surface mining operations.
Should you have projects that need the use of motor graders, you must consider the costs which include ownership and operating costs. Due to high cost of ownership, there are companies that lease heavy equipment.
