The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator or MCSA Certification is a Microsoft training course that gives candidates the necessary skills to successfully manage, implement and troubleshoot the needs of Microsoft-based operating environments. Although it does not expire, Microsoft releases new versions of the MCSA Certification as they upgrade their software.
A mid-level certification program, the MCSA certification was introduced in October 2001 to answer the training needs of network administrators, systems administrators, information systems administrators, network operations analysts, network technicians and other help-desk professionals. MCSA certified candidates work to support existing network infrastructure but are not expected to implement or design new systems.
Although not a prerequisite to obtaining the MCSA credential, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator candidates are encouraged to obtain a year of working experience with network operating systems, desktop operating systems, and existing network infrastructure systems.
The Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator or MCSA certification consists of three core exams and one elective exam. However, if you have already earned specific certifications, these may substitute for an elective exam.
Benefits of an MCSA Certification include:
• A strengthened career in network and systems administration
• Higher pay or pay increases
• Industry recognition for your Microsoft products and technologies expertise
If you want to attract prospective employers looking for specific skills, Microsoft has also come up with specialized MCSA courses. Messaging and Security specializations are available on Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003. There are also Microsoft training courses to equip you with the necessary knowledge and skill required for your particular job. Among these are the MCDBA course or Microsoft Certified Database Administrator course - a certification for professionals who administer SQL Server databases.
For IT Professionals with a more targeted framework who want to showcase their technical and on-the-job skills, Microsoft has designed the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD) training courses.
