FOR CRITICAL SITUATIONS
Medical evacuation in an emergency is very important because the condition of the patient or victim may require more than what an emergency response unit can deliver. When the victim is in critical condition, medical evacuation or medivac can spell the difference between life and death.
Even if you are already in a hospital, a medical evacuation may still be necessary if the medical facility you are in is not equipped to properly handle your medical situation. In this case, a doctor will sign a release form stating that a medical evacuation must be immediately performed because the hospital cannot provide the medical care that you require.
Medical evacuation units must be dispatched using as little time as possible because the urgency of the situation warrants it. Even before the patient is transferred, there must already be a flight plan and transfer arrangements should have already been made with the destination facility so that they are ready to perform emergency procedures as soon as the patient arrives.
MEDIVAC COVERAGE
Medical evacuation can be very expensive, especially if the transfer covers a significant distance. However, there are some medical insurance policies that offer medical evacuation as an option for an added fee.
Of course, not everyone will need emergency evacuation procedures. There are situations and circumstances that may need a medical evacuation insurance coverage. For instance, if your line of work requires you to do a lot of traveling, you may need medical evacuation coverage in case anything happens to you while on the road.
However, if you live and work in the city and you are very near a state-of-the-art hospital, then provisions for medivac cover may just be an unnecessary expense. In this case, you might be better off using the money for something else like.
