Opening a daycare center is not as simple as it seems. There are a lot of steps to go through including getting the appropriate permits and passing several inspections including inspections for food and for the property.
The first step you will take when your open a daycare center is to check with your local health services office to get the list of standards, guidelines and permits that you would need. You local health services representative should be able to answer all your questions regarding inspections and sanitary and food permits.
After you have fully reviewed the standards and guidelines, you need to submit your building plans to your county health department for review of your local sanitarian. If you are planning to serve food when you open a daycare, you would need to submit a food service plan as well.
You county health department will then review your plans. Your plan may need revisions and additional information before it can be approved. Most county health departments will send letters to update you on the current status of your application. You can also visit them personally to hasten the process.
Once your plans are approved, you can proceed with building your daycare center. Your country health department will send you an approval letter and the list of inspections you have to go through before you open a daycare. There are usually three inspections before your big opening day.
When you open a daycare center, you have to make sure you have informed you local family services department as well as your zoning department for requirements. You have to submit your building and food service plans for review. You have to pass the inspections by your local sanitarian. And if you are planning to serve food in your daycare, it is best if you enroll in a food sanitation course to get your certification.
