Now that you are set to have online presence for your business, you must now look for domains available that you can acquire. Prepare a list of prospective company names and then run a check for an available domain.
Search available domain names to make sure you will have no problems. If available domain names you like will be cleared for your use; if clearance is not given it is likely the company name, or a name very similar to it, is already acquired by another.
Since most domain names usually come with a .com extension, you may search available domain names using another extension, such as .net. If in your search available domain names in one of these extensions (or more correctly, top-level domains) jibes with your preferences, then you can proceed with registration.
But, one more pause before you continue. Remember that if you use your preferred domain not available with one extension but cleared as an available domain name in another extension, you can be vulnerable to trademark infringement suits. It is good to make sure. Or better, to search for a different domain name available.
On the other hand, note that the domain not available may indeed be registered but that does not necessarily mean it is being used. If the name you wanted is not available, but no web site resides at the URL when you try it, you can get information about the owner of that un-available URL. It may be that this person bought it but never got around to using it. It may be that the name is among those bought in large quantities by persons who hope to make money by making available domain names to interested parties for a fat fee. You can run a search for that person through domain name registrars. If you’re so interested in that name, you can contact the person and negotiate for its use.
