Medical assistants are the side kicks of doctors. They perform certain health and secretarial duties in the hospital under the supervision of a physician. They prepare and do laboratory jobs such as preparing specimens and filing information about it. In some areas of the medical field, medical assistants can help ophthalmologist in eye care and dentistry advice for dentists, and these assistants are called dental assistants. Dental assistants are in a much specific field because they handle hospital and administrative works for dentists. There are times when dental assistants take a test for them to be considered as certified dental assistants. They become like that because they have completed specific training modules meant for that job. Once done with this, they can do up to putting temporary cementation of restorations to patients. There are also some assistants like anesthesia assistants, who assist anesthesiologist in operations and physicians assistants or the people who help doctors in consultation procedures. They are the ones who examine, diagnose, and treat patients under the direct supervision of a physician

Being a medical assistant can be moved to another level. By taking the proper training, passing medical assistants tests, interviews and doing sets of practical application duties, a medical assistant can be licensed and be called a certified medical assistant.

The job of a medical assistant varies from place to place, depending on the location and size of the practice or the practitioner's specialty. In some areas, medical assistants are handling both administrative and clinical duties and reporting directly to an office manager, physician, or other health practitioner.

Medical assistants jobs include doing secretarial duties, receiving telephone calls, welcoming patients, recording and updating patients’ medical files, recording insurance forms, setting up appointments, arranging hospital admittance and laboratory services, and managing billing and accounting.

Medical assistants should work in well-lighted, hygienic environments. They constantly intermingle with other people and may have to handle several responsibilities at once.
