POP UP ADS
Pop up advertising are those small windows that open up when we are surfing the web. They literally “pop up” on our computer screens, thus the name, pop up advertising.
Pop ups can be very annoying especially because most of them are unsolicited. They are usually embedded in some websites that we go to, and they automatically open whenever we visit a certain web site, go to a page, or open a new link. Pop up advertising is not only annoying but can be a distraction as well, especially when we are working, studying, or doing some important online transaction.
Pop up advertising can also be dangerous because some of them embed cookies in your system that makes it easier for viruses and other malicious programs to infiltrate and attack your computer. Cookies, while often safe and necessary, can make your computer vulnerable to malicious programs like Trojans, worms, and viruses.
ANTI POP UP BROWSERS
The good news is that we are not totally helpless against pop up advertising. There are anti pop up software that are available to help us minimize those irritating and potentially hazardous pop ups.
The newest browser versions usually have a built in anti pop software that provides a decent level of protection. Usually, the anti pop software is an option presented to you while installing your new browser.
Not all pop ups are bad. Some are actually required so that you can access certain web sites. If you have enabled your anti pop up software, you may have difficulty accessing some web sites. In this case, you just have to enable and disable your anti pop up software as the case may be.
You can also configure your anti pop up software settings; you can specify which sites to block pop ups from, and from which sites to accept.
