The state of California has created stricter California DUI penalties today due to the sudden increase of people driving under the influence of alcohol.

DUI offenses are classified as civil and criminal offenses and a felony when the offense has been committed after a number of times. When caught by the police the individual will be requested to take a breath/chemical test to measure the alcohol level in the individual’s blood or breath. Graver California DUI penalties apply to individuals who refuse to take such a test. Individuals can be subject to pay higher fines, being placed on probation, can be given a longer license suspension and many more.

The seriousness of DUI penalties and fines will depend on the number of times you have been caught driving under the influence of alcohol. In normal cases, California DUI penalties would include the payment of a fine to be paid in full, or within a certain number of days. The attendance of a DUI school for a certain number of hours, and drug and/or alcohol treatment would also be compulsory. There is also a big possibility that you could be suspended from driving for a certain time period. Regardless of the number of offenses that you have committed, you are however permitted to driver yourself to work or school. In some cases, a DUI attorney may work out a settlement with to permit you to drive under a restricted license after a certain time period. You must however note that if this is permitted you will need to install a breath tester in your car. Subsequently, California DUI penalties also include compulsory time spend in jail, but will depend on the degree of the offense committed. It is however possible to negotiate with the court to convert your jail time to work service hours instead.
