Paralegal degrees professionalize the industry by setting specific educational standards that every individual must meet to become a certified paralegal legally practice the profession.

TWO ROUTES

There are two ways to earn paralegal degrees. The first is by going the traditional route, which requires you to enroll in paralegal schools and attend normal classes. The second route is by enrolling in online paralegal programs. The second route, while still generally considered unorthodox, is slowly gaining acceptance as a viable option to earning paralegal degrees. In fact more and more people are enrolling in online paralegal programs.

Online paralegal degrees provide the same level of competencies and skills training as you would expect in the classic school set-up. The only difference is in the delivery system. Traditional paralegal degrees require you to be physically present in the class and listen to lectures and discussions.

HOW IT WORKS

Online paralegal programs do not require your physical attendance to facilitate the learning process. All the learning modules and required coursework is done over the Internet. Usually, to attend a class, you have to go online and login to your class. You will be directed to a virtual classroom where you have access to all the information you need. You can “watch” or read the lectures, and then proceed with the assessment to gauge how much you were able to understand. If you are satisfied with the assessment, you can move on to taking the unit exam and progress to the next lesson or topic.

This is the typical set-up of most online paralegal degrees, varying somewhat from school to school.

How fast you want to move on to the next lesson depends on how fast you go through each module, pass the exams, and submit the required coursework. While convenient, online paralegal programs are by no means easy. You must have the internal motivation and the discipline to earn paralegal degrees, online or otherwise.
