Optional monthly premiums are only due for this coverage when you are no longer enrolled in a group health insurance plan. Do note that premium rates for the coverage increase annually.

Any person who is currently employed is automatically entered in the government’s federal healthcare program by the company they work for; however, if you are unemployed, you are given a certain timeframe of a number of months before and after reaching the age of 65 to enroll yourself, so that you can avail of the federal healthcare program coverage.

Monthly fees are charged for the available plans, and allow you to choose your physicians when treatment is required. Enhanced supplementary health insurance for the elderly can also cover for certain surgical procedures, and other treatments depending on the plan that is purchased. It is best that you check with the insurance agent of your choice or your local associations for senior citizens for advise.
