Pop up advertising refers to those small browser windows that appear unsolicited whenever we are browsing the web. Pop up advertising is one way of advertising in the Internet aside from the more common banner ads.

Pop up advertising can be more attention grabbing because of the way that it appear unexpectedly on the screen. However, some surfers may find them annoying and may disable them from appearing on the screen. There are some browsers that have built in anti pop software. This anti pop up software allows surfers to control how pop up advertising behaves, usually your permission will be asked before any pop up advertising is allowed to appear.

However we may dislike it, pop up advertising is a reality for the online world. Pop up advertising is actually one way for web site owners to earn from their site. The more popular web sites will have pop up advertising as will the more obscure ones.

Not all pop up windows are blatant advertising, some will be related pages that pertains to the site that you are currently surfing. Some links, instead of opening into a new page, will open as a pop up window. This is usually done to indicate that the link you have opened is dependent on the previous page. You can still continue to go to other links while the pop up window is active.

Whether you like it or not, pop up advertising is here to stay. We can go on complaining about them or just accept them as part and parcel of the Internet’s landscape. The fact is that we are not totally helpless against pop up advertising. Most modern browsers give us considerable power over how we surf. More importantly, these pop ups and banner advertisements have helped the Internet grow and flourish.
