( Telephony )

Conference calling is a cheaper solution, not to mention an easier way of speaking with a group of people instead of traveling miles away.

Conference calling ensures that everyone hears the same message at the same time, which makes it a lot more appealing to the corporate business and also lessens the problem of miscommunication. It allows three, four, five, or more people to talk with each other during a single phone call.

But then most people prefer the conventional communication over the telephone because placing conference calls can seem a bit intimidating. Little do you know that most business phone systems and a growing number of home phones already have the conference calling feature in it?

Using the conference calling feature is pretty easy. It usually involves four simple steps. First, call the first party. Second, ask the first party to hold. Third, call the second party. Fourth and last step is pushing the CONFERENCE or ADD button and reconnecting with the person who is holding. It’s that easy. Then at the end, you already have two people on the line to talk with.

You can ask your local telephone company to generate a conference call for you if your telephone does not have the conference call feature in it, or maybe if you need or want more than three people joining in your conference calling. Other phone companies offer conference call services on demand because it is usually set up as demand calls so you would have to call them up to get the conference call service.

You should list down the names and telephone numbers of all the conference calling participants available before you request a demand call. It is also advisable to call the operator of your telephone company at least ten minutes before you would want to begin the conference call. Then once you have already connected with the operator, give him/her the information then hang up. You then would just have to wait for the operator to call you back. Once the operator has called you back, it means that he/she is now ready to connect you to the conference call. By then, you are ready to talk with the group.

Conference calling or demand calls usually cannot be charged to the calling card that you are using or even to your credit card. The operator of your phone company will charge the bill directly to your phone number.
