Real estate licenses are renewed every two years. Principal brokers, associate brokers, brokers and property managers are required to complete real estate continuing education during the two years prior to the renewal of their licenses. Thirty hours of real estate continuing education are usually required from them to qualify for license renewal.
Certification
Property managers certify the authenticity of the brokers’ attendance or completion of real estate continuing education for the prescribed number of hours and topics. Property managers using the company’s standard form usually sign a certificate of attendance. Certification of real estate continuing education must include the qualification of the instructor and accuracy and up to date of the courses offered.
Course for Real Estate Continuing Education
Course offered under real estate continuing education must be offered for a minimum of one hour exclusive of meals and rest breaks. At least fifteen hours of required topics must be included in the continuing education courses that are approved by the agency handling real estate regulations. Courses are offered in a traditional classroom setting, correspondence course, online course and audio or video tape sessions. There is some state that requires attendance of class room sessions for certain number of hours.
Required Topics
Required topics covers the areas on trust accounts, rule and law, property management, brokerage and leasing, real estate taxation, evaluation of property, brokerage management and business ethics. These topics are deemed necessary to equip real estate brokers and property managers in handling real estate brokerage transactions and effectively serve their clients with the proper information on real estate selling. It is also important to update real estate brokers on recent real estate laws and ordinances particularly on taxation and acquisition to properly inform their clients on how to go about the legal aspect of real estate buying.
Property managers must ensure that their brokers are complying with the required number of hours as well as topics for real estate continuing education. Brokers must be equipped to execute their professions and real estate continuing education is the answer for that.
