( Education )

In a world where there is fast-paced living, technology and even more rapid change, we seem to be presented with a staggering number of choices in our everyday tasks. Selecting from a list of interior design schools is certainly not an exception. For a future student, there is a vast and often confusing number of choices, from online interior design school, to mail-order courses, to a Master’s degree in Interior Architecture.

You should consider several points when planning your continuing or secondary education carefully. You should think about the level of education, your financial accountability and even your prospective school’s location. All these should be fully considered when choosing your school.

First of, level of education. Some states specifically in the US have requirements for Interior Designers like education. The most recognized industry standard is the National Council on Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam that can only be taken after six years of experience and schooling as an interior designer. There are also schools that offer short-term courses that last around two months and some community colleges offer one-year certificate programs. Living in modern times, you also have the convenience of the Internet. Various programs, certifications and degrees are being offered in online interior design schools. However, more extensive schooling will be required if you wish to specialize in any field of expertise such as consulting.

Second, financial accountability. Bear in mind that the best interior design schools will require a bigger budget than a public interior design school in your home state for a full degree. You may fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aide to determine how much, if any, money your government will provide for your schooling.

Last but not least, location. You should ask yourself where you want to attend school. Interior design schools are located almost in every state in the US. You should ask yourself if you want to live near your parent’s house, or if you choose to live independently in another state.

Use your resources. Do your research. Make sure you do not put yourself under more stress than usual regarding your decision. If you are unhappy with your current choice, you can transfer to another interior design schools armed with firsthand knowledge from your experiences.
