THE EVOLVING TIME CLOCK

Time and clocks have long been the instruments by which we measure our professional and personal worth.

At work we use time and attendance clocks to register the time and date that we have reported for work and what time we have left. This information will then become the basis of how much we are going to receive as salary every payment cycle.

Attendance clocks have seen a lot of changes over the recent years. These changes are meant to reflect the advances in technology that are making attendance clocks more and more accurate and fool-proof. The arrival of biometric time clocks has dramatically improved employee attendance because its fail-safe system does not make any concessions for tardiness, absences. Moreover, the accuracy of biometric time clocks does not allow the clocking-in-for-someone-else which was so common in the older, time-card based employee time clocks.

THE BIOMETRIC SYSTEM

Biometric time clocks owe its accuracy to the huge losses incurred by businesses in the days of buddy-punching. Buddy-punching was the act of clocking in for your colleague by swiping his time card in the attendance clock. Older employee time clocks had no way to recognize if the owner of the time card is indeed the one clocking in. Businesses lost money because they were paying for unproductive employees who were not reporting for work at all.

Biometric time clocks are the benchmark of modern attendance clocks. It has features that make attendance monitoring very easy. Biometric time clocks register accurate labor-hours information and automatically tally the total man-hours of every employee. From the total man hours, the system computes his appropriate salary which is then integrated into your company’s payroll system for processing.

While it is true that an individual’s worth cannot really be measured by time and clocks, they are however a reliable gauge as to an employee’s value to a business.
