THE MODERN TELESCOPE

There is no doubt about it - a bore scope is an exceptionally useful piece of device. The range of applications for the bore scope is far-reaching and growing even as we speak. However, the main use of the bore scope is in the field of inspection and maintenance of structures, systems, and machines.

Borescopes are derivatives of the telescope, except that it is longer and much smaller in size. A bore scope is basically a wire or pipe that has a lens on one end and a viewing/display system on the other end which can be attached to a computer monitor, TV, or projector.

The bore scope’s pipe-like construction allows it to be inserted in small spaces that ordinary cameras will not fit into. The simple design and concept of borescopes have nevertheless revolutionized video inspection systems in a level that has never been done before because it has allowed us to see in places that we would otherwise have no means for entrance.

UNLIMITED USE

Borescope inspection is very important to industries. In the airline and vehicle industry, borescopes are used to check the machine for electrical and mechanical integrity and test for air and road worthiness. In the industrial and construction field, borescopes are used to inspect wiring and plumbing systems and to check for cracks, leaks, and for other signs of structural damage that needs immediate attention.

Borescopes are of two basic types – the rigid and the flexible. The images that a rigid bore scope generates are very clear and are ideal for inspecting straight structures where not much movement is required. A flexible borescope on the other hand has the advantage of moving through bends and curves. Because of the high mobility of a flexible borescope, the images captured are subject to distortions which lower the quality of the generated image.
