If your fiancee is a UK citizen, you should decide carefully whether you want your marriage solemnized in the UK or elsewhere. You must realize that the requirements for a spouse or a fiancee seeking to enter the UK are different. This is especially true if you belong to a country where a visit in the UK alone requires you to get a UK visa.

Should you and your fiance decide to get married in UK, you must apply for a UK fiancee visa beforehand. For you to qualify for a UK fiancee visa, your fiance must be at least eighteen years old and currently settled or residing in the UK. If your fiance is living outside UK, then the intention to come and live permanently in the UK must be established.

You will need to show evidence of your plans to marry within a six-month period after entry in the UK. Your plan to live together permanently as husband and wife in the UK must also be clearly shown. To avoid arranged marriages, you must satisfy the condition that you meet your future spouse in person. The UK government requires that you and your dependants should have a place of accommodation and sufficient funds to stay in the UK.

As a rule, your stay under a UK fiancee visa shall be good for six months. Note that you are not allowed to work during this period. After your marriage shall have taken place, you will be allowed to apply for a two-year visa extension. And if the extension is granted, you can proceed to find a job. If you are still married to each other after the two-year period, then you can apply for a permanent residency. Within this period, you should strive to obtain a UK credit card to help in emergencies and other needs.
