Personal emergency response is a system designed to call upon help or assistance in times of health emergencies when you are away from a hospital or medical facility. Personal emergency response is an integrated coordination of several key components which includes the following: emergency medical response, emergency response vehicles, and emergency response equipment.

CALL FOR HELP

Personal emergency response is a sophisticated, well-oiled machine whose goal is to provide emergency medical assistance, and ultimately to save lives. Emergency response vehicles come furnished with state-of-the-art medical equipment designed to give emergency first-aid while on the road until the victim arrives at a hospital for complete medical care.

The most common emergency response system that we are all familiar with is the 911 system. But for those who are living alone, disabled, or elderly there is the personal emergency response system. This emergency response system acts pretty much like a security alarm. The personal emergency response system is a small device that you wear and is activated by the touch of a button. Once the button has been pressed, it sets off a series of automated steps which notifies and dispatches a response unit immediately to your location.

LIVES ON THE LINE

This type of personal emergency response will not stop until your medical emergency has been resolved. If you are interested, be prepared to pay for the following: the device or unit, the installation, and the monthly monitoring fee. There are some hospitals and social service organizations that rent out personal emergency response systems they charge you for the entire service which includes the unit and the installation and monitoring fees.

In a personal emergency response system, the important element is the monitoring service. Be sure to check for the following: round-the-clock monitoring; the average emergency response time; provision of regular maintenance check and testing of the communication unit; and the level of training the response team has.

Check and double-check for the integrity of your personal emergency response system; because when lives are on the line, you can never be too careful.
