( Technology )

Coil binding is the most widely known method for the binding documents, books and other paper based materials. Coil binding is also referred to as spiral binding. Although there are many uses for coil binders, consumers are more familiar with coil binding in its most common application – the ubiquitous spiral notebook used by everyone.

Previously, coil binding was used primarily by printing presses. Coil binding was mainly an industrial operation, as the coil binding machine being used was relatively bulky and expensive for home or small business use.

STRAIGHTFORWARD TECHNOLOGY

A coil binding machine uses a fairly simple technology to fasten papers: the machine aligns the sheets of paper, bores holes into the sheets, inserts the coil binders into the sheet holes, and finally, cuts and smoothens out the sharp coil bind edges.

A coil binding machine is being made into two general types. One model bores four holes for every one inch, while the other type creates five holes per inch of paper. The maximum paper thickness and length that a coil binding machine can bind depends on the specifications and make of the coil binding machine.

THE TIES THAT BIND

Recently, coil binding has been made available to offices and homes with the introduction of a low-cost coil binding machine specially designed for non-commercial production. This entry-level coil binding machine is great for businesses that files and stores large volumes of documents on a regular basis. Having a coil binding machine in your office makes organizing the paperwork much easier and faster.

Coil binding has been one of those uncomplicated but indispensable innovations in life. Coil binding does not call for sophisticated science or highly-advanced technology. The amazing thing about coil binding is that it is has outlived so many other inventions, and it looks like it is here to stay for a very long time.
