In a business or corporate environment, it is customary that all documents exude formality. The stationary should be formal, hand-written letters kept to a minimum, and envelopes should be stark, stiff and white. Deviating from the norm was not only looked down upon, but considered unaccepted. That was yesterday.
Today, many companies are veering away from the standard and are finding ways to express their individuality in more eye-catching methods, and one way this is done is by utilizing coloured envelopes.
Coloured envelopes used to be a big no-no in the corporate world, and used only for wedding and party invitations. In the past, only packing list envelopes and padded mailers came in a different color (normally a bright yellow). However, due to today's highly competitive and creative environment, coloured envelopes are accepted even in traditionally conservative industries. It is no longer unusual to see business envelopes in colours such as blue, pink, and green.
In addition to coloured envelopes, companies are also resorting to specialty envelopes. These are envelopes that come in different shapes and sizes (and colors) that can be designed to conform to the concept of its contents. Specialty envelopes are usually the material of choice when photo mailers or dvd mailers are sent out.
Another kind of envelope being used now are translucent envelopes. For security purposes, translucent envelopes are not used when the contents are of a more serious and confidential nature. Translucent envelopes, are more commonly used when the sender need to show that the container does not hold any contraband or illegal substances or items.
The decision as to which kind of envelope your company or your business should use will depend entirely on your corporate mission, thrust and of course, your own personal preference. If you feel uncomfortable using coloured envelopes of specialty envelopes such as the translucent kind, then by all means, use the traditional white coloured ones.
