Normal depression in people can be caused by bad news, low self-esteem, and personal problems. Clinical depression however is a serious and prolonged case of depression that may involve delusion or suicidal attempts.

Depression medication is crucial to clinical depression. A depression that is left untreated can result in lowered immune system and may result in mental and physical health problems.

There is no specific cause for clinical depression although it is often related to anxiety disorders. However, not all cases of depression are caused by anxiety orders. In the same way, not all people with anxiety disorders experience depression.

The degree of depression can vary for every person and a qualified physician should determine what medications depression or anti anxiety medications should be administered to every patient.

The decision concerning what medications depression should be given should be decided between the patient and the doctor. However, the patient and his/her family should also be aware of any side effects the medications depression may bring.

Some anti depression medications like the newly popular selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors may cause sexual problems such as lack of libido, failure to reach orgasm and erectile problems. Certain anxiety-related conditions are also associated with using selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

However, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are commonly prescribed since they are safer against overdose which is the most common form of suicide for depressed patients.

Monoamine oxidase inhibitors on the other hand, may cause liver inflammation, heart attack, stroke, and seizures. Patients taking this treatment should also be concerned about eating certain smoked, fermented, and pickled foods as well as select beverages. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors combined with certain types of food and drink can cause severe high blood pressure.

Conversely, patients using tricyclic antidepressants often experience dry mouth, blurred vision, drowsiness, dizziness, tremors, and sexual problems. Some patients also experience skin rashes as well as weight gain or loss.
