Cubicle tracks are mainly used to hold the cubicle curtains in hospitals, doctors’ clinics, laboratories, surgical centers, and other medical facilities. Cubicle tracks are often made of extruded aluminum with either clear anodized or satin finish.

Standard cubicle track bends come in 90 and 45degrees. However, most suppliers make custom bent flexible tracks upon request to accommodate varying wall curves in construction.

There are two general types of cubicle tracks: the surface-mounted type and the suspended-mounted type.

Surface-mounted cubicle tracks are installed directly onto finished ceiling or flushed against the ceiling. When installing surface-mounted cubicle track onto the ceiling, make sure that the carriers bypass the head of the screws so they can freely slide on the track.

For flushed installations, the opening made on the finished ceiling should be taped to ensure that no particles of plaster will go into the track which may prevent the carriers from sliding smoothly.

Suspended-mounted cubicle tracks on the other hand, are installed similar to surface mounted tracks. Since they are suspended however, the fittings used are especially designed to dampen the sound transmission of the sliding carriers.

In the meantime, flexible tracks are also used for lighting purposes. Flexible tracks are available in S-shapes, circular and semi-circular shapes, and in free form.

Track lighting is basically a series of individual lighting fixtures that are positioned in a flexible track. The individual lights are easily repositioned depending on the effect you desire. Track lighting can be attached to walls and ceilings and is often used as accent to homes and commercial establishment.

Conversely, cable track lighting consists of two parallel cables. The lighting fixtures are placed between the cables for support and power supply.

Older types of lighting fixtures for track lighting had transformers built into the individual light fixtures which resulted in bulky and less aesthetically pleasing track light systems. Newer versions today however have one transformer mounted either to the ceiling or the track to serve all the fixtures resulting in sleeker track lighting designs.
