One of the best ways to know whether physical therapy is the right career for you is to gain in-depth knowledge about the discipline and the trend of physical therapy jobs. According to the department of labor statistics, physical therapy jobs are projected to increase at a rate faster than all other occupations combined for the succeeding years.

In a way, physical therapy continues the age-old traditions and arts that induced healing through drug-free, physical methods. But the modern physical therapists are more educated in the science of healing, and trained to treat problems on health and movement resulting from illnesses, injury and birth-related disorders such as cerebral palsy.

A physical therapy job is actually a commitment and should not be taken lightly. As a physical therapist, you give your patients hope to recover, or improve their ability to function in their day-to-day lives. Since you will be dealing mostly in educating your patients about their respective treatments, you will need to develop your interpersonal skills.

To qualify for a physical therapy job, you must have graduated from an educational institution, which is not just one of the massage therapist schools, but one that has accreditation in its physical therapy program. You should also have passed the required licensure examination.

Once you have the license to practice in a state, you will not have difficulty in finding a physical therapy job. Hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, and offices of fellow physical therapists are just some of your choices. Or, you may also want to go on your own private practice and work part time in other health care institutions. If you prefer to be a mentor of future physical therapists, you may apply in academic institutions.

Just like other professions, most states require that you participate in continuing education physical therapy workshops and courses to maintain your license.
