E-learning is the process of receiving one’s education via a computer and other communications technology. There are different methods of e-learning, including online lectures, simulations, tutorials, and games. Online education falls under the category of e-learning, where your education is delivered to you on-line.

Online education enables distance learning by using wide area networks, or WANs. Many universities offer online degree programs that allow you to finish courses without having to leave your home. There are also universities that only exist online, which can provide you with online education programs. Some universities also offer a form of blended learning, where online education is admixed with attendance in some campus classes.

Different academic degrees and certificate programs are available online, including Master’s degrees and Doctoral programs. Online programs also offer online support services, registration, consultations, student newspapers and financial aid.

Online education allows you to modify your courses based on your needs and arrange your classes to fit your schedule. Online learning is convenient, especially if you work full time, already have a family of your own, or live in a different country. The cost of studying in online universities is generally the same as studying in traditional classes.

An example is the University of Arizona online programs. The Arizona Universities Network (AZUN) allows you to earn an undergraduate degree, graduate degree or professional certificate from one of Arizona’s three state universities, including the University of Arizona. The University of Arizona online programs allow you to complete courses or simply take classes for personal or professional benefit. Different courses and classes are offered online. The University of Arizona online programs also allow cross-campus registration to the other AZUN schools.

Studying in online universities also has some disadvantages. Fly-by-night degree mills abound in the internet, where you can buy a degree without actually learning anything. If you do find a legitimate online university, your online education can only provide limited human interaction.
