Pay As You Go phones, also known as PAYG phones, Go phones or prepaid cell phones, are phones that you have to load credit into before you are able to use them. When you purchase a Go phone, it is usually pre-loaded with a certain amount. Once you have consumed that credit, you will need to buy a card containing phone credits to allow you to call or send messages.

The major advantage to Go phones is that people without proof of identification or billing, including those who are not of legal age, are able to own a mobile phone. It also allows you to limit your usage and eliminates the hassle of having to pay monthly bills.

However, the drawback to owning a Go phone is that the mobile service usually charges a higher rate for phone calls and SMS messages than if you own a plan. Some functions, such as international calls and roaming, are also not available with some Pay As You Go services.

One of the more popular Pay As You Go phones is the Cingular Go Phone. Cingular Go Phone allows you to choose from two options: the regular Cingular Go Phone prepaid service and the Cingular Pick Your Plan service.

The regular Cingular Go Phone prepaid service requires you to buy a phone card pre-loaded with a certain amount. Your usage will be deducted from the amount you reload. Meanwhile, the Cingular Go Phone Pick Your Plan service is a prepaid service that bills you automatically each month through your credit card or bank account. There are more features available to Pick Your Plan customers, such as the Roll-over Balance, wherein your unused balance can roll-over to the next month and accumulate until a year.

Cingular gives you more choices on your prepaid cell phone services, giving you your money’s worth, while still allowing you to limit your spending.
