The work of a statistician is not easy. The statistician has to contend with numbers and the accuracy of these numbers too. Those who would like to gather information about a certain phenomenon or those who would like to survey the pulse of the trends in public opinion employ a statistician.

For public poll opinion seekers, they hire a statistician to translate their results into numbers that can be easily understood when read and systematically used as a springboard for other actions.

The statistician, in turn, uses statistic software to encode all data gathered. These data may be presented in a table to provide statistic help. Once data has been entered into a certain format, the statistic software will perform the rest of the computation work and produce the result.

These results may provide nominal information wherein a label is attached to certain bits of information or ordinal information wherein information is assigned a certain ranking.

For more complicated statistician work, results may provide information about the relationship between two or more variables studied. The statistician may also furnish information about the extent to which you can rely heavily on the results. In other words, the statistician will also tell you how reliable the gathered results were and would the results be helpful to you if you use them.

Actually, you have to be cautious about the reliability of certain statistics because the outcome is subject to a lot of factors such as environmental conditions, prevailing public opinion, personal preference, and a lot of other things. These factors are quite difficult to translate into numbers; hence, the work of a professional statistician is always sought.

Once the reliability of the statistics provided is established and accepted without being contested, then you can use this data to determine the direction of your other study or work.
