What is cerebral palsey? As the disorder implies, it concerns the cerebral part of the body which is the brain. Cerebral palsey is a kind of brain disorder that may have occurred before the birth of an infant, during the birthing process, or after the infant was born. This disorder is sometimes wrongly spelled as cerbral palsey, cerebal paulsey, or cerable palsey but the correct term for this is cerebral palsey.

One manifestation of cerebral palsey is that movement especially muscle movements are affected. The infant should be capable of performing developmental milestones at different points in time. If the infant’s brain was affected, cerebral palsey may be one resulting disorder.

Infections to the brain of the infant may include viral encephalitis or bacterial meningitis. Cerebral palsey may also be the effect of an accident causing injury to the brain or head.

Thus, the birthing process is a delicate process and should be handled by qualified nurses and doctors. Otherwise, they may be held liable for any negligence or malpractice on their part during the birthing process. And one thing to take not of is a possible sign of cerebral palsey.

In diagnosing cerebral palsey, some of the signs that should be observed in an infant during the birthing process are the following:

1. Did the condition of the infant change during labor?
2. Did the infant receive enough supply of oxygen while the mother was in labor?
3. Was a cesarean delivery immediately done when the fetus was suffering too much inside the mother’s womb?
4. Were appropriate tests done on the pregnant mother?
5. Were the tests done on the pregnant mother interpreted correctly?
6. Was too much vacuum extraction used during the birthing process?

If an injury has been made on the infant, some of these symptoms should be observed in order to identify possible cases of cerebral palsey.

1. Did the infant suffer seizures within 24 to 48 hours after birth?
2. Was the temperature of the infant stable?
3. What was the color of the skin of the infant at birth? Was it blue?
4. Was breathing observed after the infant was born or do you have to administer resuscitation?

These are just some symptoms of cerebral palsey. Consultations with a qualified pediatrician should still be maintained in order to fully determine if your child has cerebral palsey or not.
