People working with sulfuric acid storage must avoid welding and open flames activities that can led to fire. Instead, they should use spark proof materials and lights. Avoid storing sulfuric acid near organic nitrate, chlorates, metal powders and other organic materials since close contact with these items can ignite fire.

Storage tanks of some sulfuric acid derivatives needs heating to liquefy those acids that froze during high winter temperatures. Workers must apply proper heating procedures to ensure that the process of liquefying the acid is safe.

Persons with proper knowledge, experience and training in the chemical industry must handle sulfuric acid storage. They should undergo training related to safety handling of sulfuric acid to avoid health and environment hazard.
