What is Genital Herpes and How is it Acquired?

Genital herpes is a virus transmitted through sexual intercourse. Vaginal, anal or oral sexual contact spread genital herpes virus. Once genital herpes virus infects a person, it stays in that person’s body for a lifetime. Thus, outbreaks of genital herpes occur from time to time.

Type of Genital Herpes Virus

Type two of herpes simplex virus mainly causes genital herpes symptoms. Women show many cases of genital herpes symptoms than men. Most women do not realize genital herpes virus infection since most of the time there are no symptoms shown to identify it. However, women who experience worst case of genital herpes symptoms endure so much pain.

Symptoms of First Outbreak

The first outbreak of genital herpes virus is very painful. Symptoms include sores around the vagina or anus areas that can extend or appear on the thighs and buttocks. These sores usually appear days after the actual herpes infection. It initially looks like rashes in red color that eventually turns into very painful blisters. The outbreak lasts approximately a month depending on the healing process of every person infected with genital herpes virus.

Swollen glands in the groin, vaginal discharge, difficulty in urination, fever, headache and muscle aches are common symptoms of genital herpes infection. The severity of these symptoms depends on the severity of the outbreak and infection suffered by a person.

Symptoms of Repeat Outbreak

Repeat outbreak of genital herpes is somewhat similar with those experienced during the first outbreak but not as worst. Others do not show symptom of the virus but can still spread it while performing sexual intercourse.

Repeated outbreaks last shorter than the first outbreak. Tingling in areas where red rashes appear and eventually blisters are usually symptoms experienced by people suffering repeated genital herpes outbreaks. Administering immediate medical attention prevents a full blown outbreak if those suffering from it recognize early genital herpes symptoms.

Safe sexual intercourse is better prevention for acquiring genital herpes virus. Genital herpes look like the most common sexually transmitted disease in the future if people will not implement safe sex practices.
