Applied Behavioral Analysis or ABA programs are method of learning processes directed towards children suffering from autism and other development disorders to help them interact with their environment and also to help people surrounding them understand their behaviors better. Direct observation, measurement and analysis of behaviors in relation to environment are the tools used in designing ABA programs. Its goal is to increase the learning capability of children with autism and development disorders in order to increase their chances of communicating effectively with their respective environment and with other people to be able to live in harmony with them as much as possible.

ABA programs expect changes in the behavior of children suffering from autism. These children are motivated through provision of incentives or other forms of stimulus to help them improve their level of communication.

ABA programs assess the functionality level of children with autism through an evaluation of their basic language and learning skills. It analyzes their strengths and weaknesses in terms of their level of communication and learning skills so that their respective ABA programs are customize for their needs. It is important to highlight the area where children with autism needs more help so that teachers of ABA programs will focus on that area immediately and not waste time and effort on areas of teaching not relevant to the development of children with autism. Parents, teachers and even students will avoid getting frustrated over skills that students with autism are not ready to learn based on their skills level.

It is necessary to maintain good relationship between parents and professionals participating in ABA programs to coordinate the behavioral progress of children with autism from their school to their homes. There are cases of disagreements and dissatisfaction between parents and professionals handling ABA programs that resulted to legal disputes. Thus, ABA approved paralegal programs were created to address the issue of conducting ABA programs within the parameters of the law.
